I love teaching!!

What else can be better that growing a passion for music and nurturing skill in playing a musical instrument!

Instruments on offer are Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone and Trumpet.

I teach students of all levels and abilities, including adults and school age children. I teach face to face at my studio, and also teach using Skype. (More below)

Stories help me connect a message or meaning and help us play the music better. Its a great resource for teaching.

Having great sound and technique enable students to play regularly at SHEP courses run by the Conservatorium at Griffith University in Brisbane. Some students go on to represent the state and then Australia at the Pacific Honours Program. Adults enjoy the music, develop a new skill, but also learn how to breathe properly!

I love the changes students make as they grow music, and when it becomes a fixture in their lives. It’s positive …….. and for life.

LESSONS ON SKYPE

What do you need?

Basically a computer, a book and an instrument and a quiet room….a learning space. Sometime headphones can help. I use just an Apple Macbook Pro. With older computers I had external speakers, but with a newer computer, the onboard speakers and microphone are just fine. I have a flute teacher…….In England, an American….. an amazing teacher…. so I get to be a student too! It’s never to late to stop learning! So I know what its like being on the receiving end of a lesson too.

I give weekly lessons at an agreed time and simply connect from my computer to yours. Music and any teaching materials is sent in advance so that the student has resources to work from.

Its fun, and an honour for me to be invited into your home albeit on a computer screen. Its a good idea for a parent to be present especially in the early lessons to help establish routines, practice, and learn how to put the instrument together……. yes…. they all come in bits!! But its important that we get this bit right as you’ll learn how to look after your stuff. For me, it’s important that I get to know the parents too, so that we can work together to make this a success.

Yes….. stuff happens, weather, storms, tech stuff but thats part of the journey and alternative lessons can be arranged if needed.
